cheating bastards: codes

So, a certain Gameboy game is showing you no mercy and kicking your slow-witted ass?  And you have simply been unable to conquer a particular map?  Well, you can find passwords for all the maps in the "New Story" and "Legend Story" campaigns further down on this page.  But first, I would like to discuss the codes that can be used for Nectaris GB--or the lack of these codes, to be precise.

When Hudson recycles games from its' back catalog, it usually does so in a straightforward and consistent manner.  As a result, Nectaris fans have come to expect the usual set of special modes (i.e. sound test, watch computer fight itself, play as the enemy Guicy army instead of the Union forces, etc.) to be available in every Nectaris title.  I was somewhat surprised, therefore, when I was unable to access these special modes in Nectaris GB (first I tried the old codes, then I scoured the net, but I couldn't find any codes, anywhere).  I would be truly surprised if NectarisGB was completely stripped of these modes, so I think it is just a matter of time until someone, somewhere, shares the information. Please contact me if you can shed any light on the matter.  Thanks.

Play as the GUICY (AXIS)  instead of the UNION  (ALLIED) :
Unavailable on Gameboy?  The PC-Engine code didn't work.

Watch the computer fight itself :
Unavailable on Gameboy?  The PC-Engine code didn't work.

Sound Test :
Unavailable on Gameboy? I already tried entering "ONGAKU" (which means "music") as a password.  Any other suggestions?

NOTE ON CODES:  ... are there any?

Here are the passwords for all 64 maps in Nectaris GB (Gameboy) that require passwords (note: the 44 "Contest Winner" maps do not require passwords and can be accessed at any time). The 32 maps comprising "New Story" are exclusive to this Gameboy version of Nectaris and are unavailable elsewhere--unlike the 44 "Contest Winner" maps (which can be found on the 1998 PlayStation Nectaris release) ,  or the ubiquitous "Legend Story" campaign (which is the original campaign from the PC-Engine version and is included on each and every Nectaris title ever released).

TRIVIA: If you are a fan of the TurboGrafx-16 console, you may have noticed that the original campaign ( "Legend Story" ) on this Gameboy title contains many unfamiliar map names.  This discrepancy is easily explained:  the Gameboy's  "Legend Story" is taken straight from the original PC-Engine game.  When the original Nectaris was released in North America for the TurboGrafx-16 under the title "Military Madness", 18 passwords were altered. For example, Map 9 changed from "GALOIS" to "GALIOS" and map 14 "APPOLO" was corrected to "APOLLO". In addition, the passwords for the entire advanced campaign (maps 17-32) were changed for the TG-16 title, as follows:

17. MILTON   18. IRAGAN   19. LIPTUS   20. INAKKA   21. TETROS   22. ARBINE   23. RECTOS   24. YEANTA
25. MONOGA   26. ATTAYA   27. DESHTA   28. NEKOSE   29. ERATIN   30. SOLCIS   31. SAGINE   32. WINNER

Needless to say, the passwords listed above only work with the North American TG-16 version of the game. Some online resources have confounded the TG-16 & Japanese map names--don't be confused any longer!
